VooL – Vienna out of Lines

Februar 3, 2027 @ 10:00 a.m. - Februar 7, 2027 @ 5:00 p.m.

Vienna — February 4–7, 2027

Optional Coaching Day — February 3

Overview

Vienna Out of Lines is a four-day high-level acrobatics event built around one simple idea:

No lines.

Instead of using a longe to build up difficult skills, we’ll spend four days working on statics and dynamics out of lines, using trained spotters, heavy use of spotting blocks and crash mats, smart progressions and a strong focus on safe, controlled training.

The goal is to learn how to adapt progressions, technique and exercises to training without longes. We’ll work on how to spot difficult skills properly, how to train spotting itself, and how to build enough confidence and consistency to eventually train more independently.

Rather than simply removing the longe and attempting the same skill, we’ll look at what needs to change: the progression, the spotting setup, the technique and the way you approach the skill.

VOOL is for experienced acrobats who already have a solid technical foundation and want dedicated time to work on harder skills in an environment specifically designed for out-of-lines training.

Pre-requisites

  • Standing Hand to Hand squats
  • Foot to Hand Tempo no release

What do we train?

We’ll work towards skills such as:

  • Courbet & Cascade out of the longe, including easier versions and progressions
  • Tempos with release
  • How to safely learn saltos from a base
  • Loads of spotting & catching exercises
  • High-level dynamics such as handsprings, saltos, side Courbet & Cascade
  • One-arm skills
  • Long-arm skills
  • Out-of-lines progressions
  • Individual skill development
  • Space for wishes and specific tricks

The exact difficulty will adapt to the people in the room. You don’t need to already have all of these skills — the point is to understand how to build towards them safely without relying on a longe.

During the four main days, we’ll combine structured technical sessions with longer training blocks, giving you enough time to apply corrections, repeat skills and actually develop them throughout the event.

We’ll make heavy use of spotting blocks, crash mats and trained spotters so that difficult skills can be approached in controlled steps rather than simply attempted without a longe.

The idea behind VOOL is to create an environment that is difficult to find in normal training: good partners, trained spotters, plenty of spotting equipment, enough time and coaching — all focused on becoming better and safer at training out of lines.

About Tom

Tom is a professional partner acrobatics coach and former circus artist with around ten years of experience in acrobatics and performance.

His teaching focuses strongly on technical understanding, efficient progressions and practical problem-solving. Rather than just teaching the final trick, he breaks skills down into smaller parts and gives both base and flyer clear tasks, drills and technical cues.

A large part of his work focuses on Standing Hand to Hand, Foot to Hand, tempos and dynamic partner acrobatics, including how to safely progress towards more difficult skills and eventually take them out of lines.

He teaches workshops and intensive acrobatics programs across Europe and works mainly with intermediate and advanced acrobats who want to improve both their technique and their understanding of how to train.
